Waves, Curlies & Coilies - What’s Your Type?

Waves, Curlies & Coilies - What’s Your Type?

Let’s get real– everyone’s curls are a little bit different and have specific needs when it comes to helping them maintain moisture. But it can be hard to know where to begin your curl care journey without knowing more about your individualized hair type.

First, what exactly is a hair type? The 4-tiered hair type system was developed by Andre Walker in the 1990s and breaks down hair by texture into four main groups and three subcategories coded by numbers and letters, starting with stick-straight locks (1A) all the way to the coiliest of tresses (4C).

Knowing your hair type helps you better understand your hair and what it needs to stay healthy and beautiful. Once you know more about your personal type, you can make smart decisions about the best products and methods to manage your hair. It can all be a bit confusing at first, but don’t worry– we’re here to help! Let’s break down exactly what goes into discovering your personalized curl type, below.

Otherwise known as: Wavy hair

Hair Types: (2A, 2B, 2C)

As Seen On:: Taylor Swift, Rosario Dawson and Zoe Saldana

Wavy hair can have a soft S-shaped curve, beachy tousles, or a more defined S-shape that’s almost curly. Easy to manage and full of shine, you can do it all with your versatile waves! All three types of wavy hair are prone to being flat, limp or brittle and most will benefit from gentle moisture and products designed to help with breakage.

Chébé + HA - A nourishing conditioner that pumps up your hair with nutrients and maximum moisture to make those waves bounce.

Chébé Hair Milk - The ultimate hydrating detangler that helps melt away those pesky knots and protects against breakage.

Otherwise known as: Curly hair

Hair Types: (3A, 3B, 3C)

As Seen On: Shakira, Beyonce and Natasha Lyonne

Curly hair (3A, 3B, 3C) can range from larger, bouncy ringlets to springy corkscrews. People can’t help but smile when they see your defined curls so full of bounce and life! All three types of curly hair often struggle with frizz, which is why it’s vital to make sure your curls get a healthy dose of moisture through each step of your hair care routine.

Chébé Curls Gelée - A versatile gel-hybrid styler that combats frizz by giving thirsty curls some much-needed moisture while also delivering top notch curl definition.

Oil Of Chébé - A luxurious, lightweight hair oil that dials up the shine without weighing down your curls.

Otherwise known as: Coily hair

Hair Types: (4A, 4B, 4C)

As Seen On: Janelle Monae, Willow Smith and Lauryn Hill

Coily hair (4A, 4B, 4C) can range from defined, tight coils to dense curls with a zigzag pattern. Your thick gorgeous coils have envy-inducing volume! Even though Type 4 hair is the thickest, it’s also the most prone to breakage without proper care. The key to healthy coils? Moisture, moisture, and more moisture!

Chébiotic Hair Mask - An intensive deep conditioning treatment to infuse coils with restorative moisture.

Chébé Buttercream - A deeply hydrating styler that makes coils pop while also providing weightless protection against breakage.
