The twist-out is a fabulous, low maintenance protective style that showcases dazzling and defined spirals. It can be challenging to create a perfect look every time, especially for those who are new to exploring their textured hair. Common issues with twist-outs are frizz, dryness, and a finished look that lacks definition. But, like all good things in life, practice makes perfection. Below are our best tips to get a class twist-out that lasts.
Clean hair is your secret weapon
Twisting on clean hair is the key to defined and lasting spirals. First, it allows the hair to absorb styling products effectively. Most importantly, it eliminates dirt, dandruff, and buildup that might stop you from achieving your desired look. Use our Chébé Hydrating Shampoo to cleanse and add moisture to your hair while removing excess buildup from the scalp.
Twisting on wet hair is best
Though some people prefer to blow out their hair to achieve greater lengths, twisting on wet hair will give your curls a sleeker and more defined look. Remember, it doesn’t have to be sopping wet. We recommend towel drying before you begin your twists. Keep a spray bottle nearby to rehydrate your curls as you work.
Don’t forget to detangle
For smooth and shiny results, you’ll need to thoroughly detangle your hair. Our best tool for melting away knots is our Chébé + HA Nourishing Conditioner, which infuses the hair with nutrients and bounce, while gently detangling. Distribute conditioner from the scalp to the tips of your hair using your favorite wide-tooth comb or your fingers, to ensure that your strands wash out knot-free.
Lock in maximum moisture
To achieve the juiciest twist-out, moisture is your best friend. Hydrating your hair will give beautiful definition to your curls while preventing frizzy results. As you twist each section of hair, work in our Chébé Buttercream and follow it up with a few drops of Oil of Chébé to seal in that sweet hydration.
Know when to unravel
This may be the most important step of all– Do not unravel your hair if it is still damp! Doing so will result in frizzy, messy curls, and you won’t achieve the definition you were hoping for. Wait until your hair is completely and thoroughly dry before taking it down with care. Then, fluff to your liking and let it be.
Protect your twist-out at all costs
To keep your twist-out protected and fresh for as long as possible, sleep with a satin scarf or bonnet to cut down on friction and frizz from your pillow. You’ll thank us in the morning.
