Mulled Karkadé-Spicy Hibiscus Warmer

Hello! If you have traveled to places like Chad, Sudan, Egypt, Senegal or Mali,  you probably had some karkadé. It is a that ruby red drink that is served either warm or cold, often with mint,  or spices. I have karkadé all year long, warm in winter and cold in summer.

Today, I am sharing with you my favorite winter mix.

Ingredients

1.5L Filtered Water

20g karkadé (hibiscus leaves)

1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger

20 leaves fresh mint

5 cardamome pods

2  cinnamon sticks

2 anis stars

1 vanilla pod

Natural sweetner (maple syrup for example) to taste

Directions

In a pot, bring to bowl all ingredients except the mint and the sweetner if you are using any. Then let the karkadé simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain it and add the fresh mint leaves (and the sweetner). Enjoy!
